Another aspiring king of Rap/Hip Hop-pop has risen from the Danish underground. The name is MUNK and clearly he is a man on a mission. MUNK has taken a giant leap into the music industry, not only by releasing his debut EP, but doing so under his own record label: Labellabel.
”Tror På Musik” fits in with the idea of typical Danish Pop/ Hip Hop. Repetitive beats and catchy phrases that we are all meant to sing along to in the clubs. Despite this MUNK has managed to fill his EP with lyrics of depth. ”Tror På Musik” sounds like a lyrical description of the growth process MUNK went through up until the release of the record. The devastation from a lost love on the track “Mr Jack”, to suffering from the Danish ”jantelov” when he was still only dreaming about his own label on “Labellabel”. The artists Patrick Alexander, Susan Dervishi, Morten Fillipsen and Kit Felnsted help MUNK along on the record, by both supplying smooth vocals next to MUNK’s heavy and drawling rap.
The album is easy on the ears and an all-round crowd pleaser, so it might not pop in your recollection of great records you’ve just heard recently. What sets this record a part from so many other chart seeking albums, is the last song “To Skridt Tilbage”. A smoother more down beat tune with heartfelt lyrics. On this track Munk approaches the music in a different way than the other songs on the album, and this is shown in the way he manages to reach out to the listener.
MUNK already has three singles out: To Skridt Tilbage, Okay and Frøken T
The record is available for purchase on the Danish iTunes, or you can stream it on Spotify or WiMP.
