The first full-length album from upcoming Waldo & Marsha is titled “Zoo” and was released earlier today
Now this is something we’ve been waiting for, for some time now! We’ve been following these guys for some time now, and been around Waldo & Marsha when promoting their concerts in town.
Their critically acclaimed debut EP was released back in January’12, and with incredible performances at SPOT Festival (2011 & 2012) and at Berlin Music Week in 2012, these guys managed to build up a hype around their name. Here in Denmark both Soundvenue and Gaffa had a lot of focus on the 8-piece band from Aarhus, and today they finally released their debut album! It has already been very well received as Gaffa gave “Zoo” 5/6 stars earlier today. We’ve also been through the entire album, and here are our thoughts on the new album.
First long play for Waldo & Marsha consists of 9 tracks with probably 3-4 singles but not a clear favorite one. The album is full of sweet melodies, happy harmonies and some fresh ballads such as “Savannah”. It’s also full of interesting arrangements full of effects, with predominant guitars and synthesizers creating a homogeneous atmosphere.
One has to listen to their album several times to realize that the climax moments are not in the apparent singles, but in other tracks such as “Am I Wasting Tears”, “Leave Me Here”, “Circular Surprise” or “Lemon Drops”.
In this first full-length album, the young band shows potential. They still have a long way to go for being compelling, the raw material is definitely there, but unfortunately the vocals sometimes get lost in a mass of medium frequencies. The conclusion is, however, that this is band that on this album proves that the hype is deserved, and we can expect a lot from these local guys in the future!
If you like The Flaming Lips, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears or Mogwai, you are most likely to enjoy Waldo & Marsha.
