Today, the festival has announced the Berlin-based noise-rock duo The KVB(UK), along with German psych-garage rockers Sick Hyenas and the Danish underground act, Dør Nr. 13, who play psychedelic rock in their mother tongue.
With these additions, the festival presents a two-day programme that is a mosaic array of genres to go explore – with anything from industrial post-punk to acidy 70’s psychedelica to be found on the poster. About the bookings this year, the festival director, Stine Kloster, tells SOA:
“Particularly with the addition of The KVB, I feel we are able to show just how multi-faceted the definition of Psych is. We believe it should be about what kind of experience the music offers, instead of trying to fit it into predictable boxes based on some overused idea of what music should and shouldn’t sound like, to have that sublime aha-effect that we, as a Psych festival, look for in our bookings.”
Along with the three new acts the festival also adds three acts who played last year, Spökraket, De Underjordiske and Tales of Murder and Dust, as an extra icing on the cake. About these three bookings she adds:
“Since last year, we’ve learned that these bands have new material either released or under way. We found those aspects highly relevant, because we see and hear three bands moving in directions that are either changing or convincingly affirming their sound. They are, in each their way, highly infiltrated in the Danish underground Psych Scene are monumental examples as to why we saw it fit to have a Psych Fest in Aarhus, in the first place. Having followed these bands and seen what tremendous development they have gone through since last year, the idea grew on us to include them as an “extra treat”, to a line-up that was actually already full. It’s kind of an experiment, so we are also eager to see if the audience finds it equally interesting to discover what has happened with these bands since last year.”
Earlier this year, we brought the story that the long-standing American act Spindrift, who falls under the self-coined genre term “cinematic psychedelic western surf”, will headline the festival as a part of their European tour. Spindrift are particularly known for their contribution to the soundtrack for Tarantino’s Hell Ride (2008) and for being somewhat a “super band” in the world of Psych, having featured members from The Warlocks and The Brian Jonestown Massacre in the past. Apparently, one may expect anything from an intense, trippy soundtrack for a shoot-down in the desert, to strange sonic revisits to old cowboy folklore.
Along with the above artists the festival has previously added Morgan Square, Moon Mountain, Holy(SE), Electric Eye (NO), Nueva Costa (CHL), and Elevatorfører.
The festival takes place at Radar and the adjacent Rå Hal, where the festival will present concerts along with visual arts and a screening of Spindrifts musical documentary The Ghost of the West.
Tickets are available from Billetto.dk at the heart warming price of DKK 180,- for both days.
